On the 3rd of December, we celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Mitie's CEO, Phil Bentley, said:
"As a Disability Confident employer, Mitie is committed to supporting our colleagues with disabilities. To attract and retain the best talent, we are continuously thinking about our workplace inclusion. I’m looking forward to attending our Disability Inclusion session on Wednesday, hosted by our Enable network to recognise the progress we have made and to understand the opportunities available to us."
Enable is a network that raises awareness of disability-related topics across the business, while offering support and guidance to our colleagues and line managers. The Mitie Foundation & Enable network completed a self-assessment of Mitie and have been recognised as Disability Confident Employer (Level 2).
Disability Confident is a DWP Scheme that supports employers to make the most of the talents disabled people can bring to the workplace. Being Disability Confident is an opportunity for employers to lead the way in their community and to discover skills and talents they cannot do without.
We have committed to delivering the following activities as a Disability Confident Employer:
- Provide work experience
- Providing paid employment (permanent or fixed-term)
- Advertising vacancies and other opportunities through organisations and media aimed particularly at disabled people
- Providing mentoring, coaching, buddying and or other support networks for staff
- Guiding staff to information and advice on mental health conditions
- Providing occupational health services if required
- We are now working towards Level 3, by delivering our commitments, recording the activity and progression made. Target is to achieve DC Leader (Level 3) status by December 2021.
