We strive to provide an inclusive and accessible work environment – one where everyone, including colleagues,
candidates, and all those who work on behalf of American Express, are treated equally, with dignity and respect. We are working diligently towards our goal to become a leader in disability inclusion, developing inclusive practices, and removing barriers so all colleagues can fully contribute and succeed at work.
In 2020, we began to develop a multi-year, enterprise-wide disability inclusion strategy. We joined The Valuable 500 in the UK, a global movement advocating for private-sector disability inclusion, demonstrating our senior leadership’s dedication to enhancing the workplace experience for colleagues with disabilities. In the UK, it is our goal to establish American Express as a Valuable 500 “Disability Smart” organization by 2024. We also renewed our partnership with Disability:IN, the leading nonprofit resource for business disability inclusion
worldwide.
Disabilities Awareness Network (DAN)
Our Disabilities Awareness Network (DAN) plays an important role in driving our disability agenda and continues to invite external experts to bring widespread attention to the issues that impact the community. One notable event brought disability rights lawyer, author, and speaker, Haben Girma, to speak with our colleagues across the globe on International Day of People with Disabilities (IDPD).
Proudly BackingColleagues with Disabilities
- Founded in 2004, DAN now has 7 chapters globally.
- We continue to expand our benefits offerings to better assist our colleagues with disabilities, making
assistive software, like Dragon speech recognition, readily available to everyone.
- In 2021, we enabled closed captioning as a standard for virtual live stream events to make broadcast content more accessible.
