Volunteering and Charity of the Year at DCMS

DCMS Charity of the Year and Volunteering Network

The DCMS Charity of the Year and Volunteering Network aims to inspire, support and enable staff to volunteer.  We want to foster a culture of volunteering in the department and set an example across government.  We believe this will help staff build their skills, support overall well-being and contribute to improved performance in the workplace as well as provide valuable support to the organisations and communities that we volunteer with.

We also coordinate colleagues across DCMS to nominate and vote for our staff 'Charity of the Year' every 1-2 years. We then fundraise for that charity and organise volunteering opportunities with them for DCMS staff. This year DCMS has two 'Charities of the Year' again: the London based Children's Book Project and the Manchester-based Lifeshare.

The Charity of the Year and Volunteering Network has 4 key aims:

  • Increase take up of volunteering leave
  • Improve the visibility of the network
  • Ensure that DCMS role models volunteering best practice across the civil service
  • Support the DCMS Charities of the Year
