Our vision is to be inclusive of people of every race, ethnicity, nationality and faith across our workforce. We believe that Barclays’ future strength lies in our ability to attract and retain colleagues from diverse backgrounds, and for us to have the diversity of thought required to achieve our goals as a company.
Supporting our Black and ethnically diverse colleagues is hugely important to Barclays. Over recent months we have accelerated our activity by working extensively with our Black colleague forums in the UK and US, which are part of Embrace, our multicultural network.
Our global employee resource groups (ERG) play a critical role in achieving Barclay’s ambitions for diversity and inclusion. They provide valuable support and advice, create development opportunities, and raise awareness of issues, challenges and initiatives. They also support our campaigns and build relationships with colleagues across Barclays and with external organisations in the communities where we operate.

In October 2020 we launched our Race at Work Action Plan. The plan comprises a thorough set of sustained actions that will open up new opportunities to attract, grow and add to our great Black talent.
Barclays is a proud signatory of Business in the Community’s Race at Work Charter.
This Charter is composed of 5 principal calls to action for leaders and organisations across all sectors. By signing the charter, we have committed to:
- Appoint an Executive Sponsor for Race
- Capture ethnicity data and publicise progress
- Commit at Board level to zero tolerance of harassment and bullying
- Make clear that supporting equality in the workplace is the responsibility of all leaders and managers
- Take action that supports ethnic minority career progression
