Education Programme at HS2

Our Education Programme aims to educate and inform children, young people and their families about the HS2 Programme and the employment and training opportunities it will create.

At peak construction, we’ll need 30,000 people and 2,000 apprentices to design and build HS2. Our Education Programme is vital to leaving a skills legacy from building and designing the new railway. It raises awareness of the Project and inspires the next generation to different careers by highlighting the diversity of jobs and skills required to deliver HS2.

It focuses on inspiring young people to take an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects through direct engagement with schools and young people, with support from our Education Ambassadors. These are staff who are passionate about their job and have volunteered their time to help attract the next generation into their industry supporting a range of events with schools to help tell the story about the jobs and skills that will be required to plan, build and operate HS2.

By sharing the experience gained in their own careers and chosen professions, our ambassadors open the door to a whole new world for young people, helping them to see subjects and careers with a fresh perspective and engage their interest and imagination in new ways.

We’ve developed a collection of resources to support teachers to bring a careers context to curriculum learning. They aim to inspire young people to take an interest in STEM subjects and careers.
