Disability Network for DBS provided by Home Office

ABLE is the Home Office Disability Network, we act as a critical friend to the department, and empower staff with disabilities to achieve their full potential through accessibility and inclusion in all Home Office workplaces.

Our vision is to provide a safe working environment, where all Home Office employees are ABLE to be everything they can be. Our purpose is to drive forward the ABLE vision across the Home Office.

ABLE strives to:

  • Be a staff network that influences change, is recognised as a champion of disability issues across the Civil Service, while helping the Home Office in maintaining their status as a Disability Confident Leader.
  • Build a positive and supportive working environment that empowers staff with disabilities to achieve their full potential and promote the benefits of greater accessibility and inclusion across the Home Office.
  • Collaborate with Disability Champions, key stakeholders, and all other Home Office staff networks to foster good working relationships and the sharing of resources and knowledge, for the benefit of all staff.

In order to be an effective team, the National Executive Committee (NEC) and Regional Advocates, combine our skills and positive attributes to achieve great things for ABLE members, and to:

  • Work together as a team, being supportive of each other and respectful at all times.
  • Promote disability equality, good practice and the interests of ABLE in all activities.
  • Advocate for disabled staff in their local areas, acting as a local source of knowledge on disability issues.
  • Represent ABLE at local diversity & inclusion meetings.
  • Undertake individual casework to support members and managers.
  • Signpost staff and managers to the most appropriate help.

What our members say:

“Just to say well done to all of the ABLE NEC and advocates for a superb year – it is great to see all of the things you have done to take the network forward. Thank you.”

“I wanted to say thank you so much for your support of our Access graduation event. It was a really full day and we couldn’t have done that without your help facilitating the table discussions. Feedback from participants on the day was really positive and I could see that they appreciated, and benefited from, your attendance at the event.”

“Thank you for delivering the Mental Health Awareness session yesterday, I have received very positive feedback from my CIOs and I took a lot from the session.”
