Reed Smith wins at Women of the Future Awards

17 November, London: The Women of the Future [WOF] Awards, proudly supported by headline sponsor Aviva, announced the winners of the 2016 Awards at an event in London last night in the presence of WOF founder Pinky Lilani CBE DL, WOF patron Cherie Blair CBE, QC, Baroness Shami Chakrabarti CBE, and the Rt Hon John Bercow MP, Speaker of the House of Commons.

Tamara Box, managing partner EME, has been recognised for her dedication and passion for establishing gender parity in winning the Women of the Future Award for mentoring. She is a respected role model and mentor to a diverse range of women (and men), not only through Reed Smith but also through her many networks and financial and managerial organisations.

Reed Smith’s commitment to nurturing women’s development within the organisation and wider society was also acknowledged at the awards, where Reed Smith was highly commended.

In a year of global disruption, highlighting successful, young women as some of our future leaders has never been more important. The UK has this year seen its second female Prime Minister come to power, however women still hold only around 7% of the world’s leading political offices, while commercial leadership is no better, with almost four in ten businesses in G7 countries having no women among their senior management teams.1

Commenting on her achievement, Tamara Box, Managing Partner EME at Reed Smith, said, “When women succeed, we all succeed: our relationships are stronger, our businesses are more profitable, and our lives are enriched. I am honoured to be able to help future leaders see a clearer path to a gender-balanced society.”

Margaret Campbell, Women’s Initiative Network of Reed Smith Chair EME, said: “We are delighted our Women’s Initiative has been highly commended at the Women of the Future Awards. As members of the 30% Club, we are committed to working towards a goal of 30% of women in the partnership. Our women flourish in an environment in which diversity and inclusion, pro bono service and community support are key.”

Our 729 female lawyers are essential to our success. They account for approximately 40% of lawyers and women hold over 40% of senior management positions, including Tamara Box our Managing Partner of Europe and the Middle East.

The WOF Awards, now in their 11th year, therefore continue to play a hugely important role, recognising, inspiring and offering practical support to the inspirational young female stars of today and tomorrow. They are open to women aged 35 or under and celebrate talent across categories including business, culture, media, technology and sport. 12 women were selected as category winners by a judging panel chaired by Sir John Peace, Chairman of Burberry Group & Standard Chartered.

Commenting on the Awards, Pinky Lilani CBE DL, Founder and Chair, Women of the Future said: “We are delighted to celebrate the remarkable personal and professional achievements of the winners of this year’s Women of the Future Awards. The WOF network grows stronger every year as we recognise the young women who are together shaping Britain’s future through their shared passion, determination, and kindness. Congratulations to all the winners!”

Aviva Group CEO, Mark Wilson, said: “I want a world with no barriers. No glass ceiling. Nothing that stops women fulfilling their potential. Aviva is delighted to support Women of the Future because it’s an important step towards turning that vision into reality. But we still have a long way to go.”
